The School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in collaboration with the Institute for Research and Applied Technology (IRAT), and with sponsorship from the For a Green Future Foundation of Vingroup, is organizing the certificate training course “Techniques and Methods for Greenhouse Gas Inventories.”
The in-person course will take place on 12 September 2026 at Vietnam National University, Hanoi. It is designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills in greenhouse gas quantification, reporting, and verification in accordance with ISO 14064 and current Vietnamese regulations.
The program is COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE. Participants who attend the full course and meet its assessment requirements will receive a certificate of completion.
Why are greenhouse gas inventories becoming increasingly essential?
As Vietnam works toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, greenhouse gas inventories are becoming an important requirement for regulatory authorities, businesses, production facilities, educational institutions, and research organizations.
A greenhouse gas inventory helps an organization identify emission sources, quantify greenhouse gas emissions, and establish baseline data for emission-reduction planning. It also provides a foundation for businesses to prepare greenhouse gas reports, comply with legal requirements, develop ESG strategies, and gradually participate in the carbon market. However, conducting an inventory involves more than collecting data. Practitioners must also understand inventory boundaries, emission factors, calculation methods, reporting requirements, and the process for verifying and validating results.
The training course “Techniques and Methods for Greenhouse Gas Inventories” is designed to provide a systematic foundation of knowledge while giving participants access to practical experience and real-world cases involving the preparation, assessment, and verification of greenhouse gas reports.
Objectives of the training course
The course focuses on three main objectives:
- Systematize knowledge of the structure, scope, and technical requirements of the ISO 14064 standards for greenhouse gas quantification, monitoring, reporting, and verification;
- Strengthen participants’ capacity to collect emissions data, prepare greenhouse gas reports, and understand independent verification processes aligned with international practice and Vietnamese law;
- Connect greenhouse gas inventory and verification results with emission-reduction roadmaps, ESG objectives, and opportunities for organizations and businesses to participate in the carbon market.
In addition to foundational knowledge, participants will examine case studies and engage directly with experts experienced in greenhouse gas validation and verification.
Course content
The one-day program covers the following main topics:
Overview of ISO 14064-1: Participants will learn the principles for quantifying and reporting organization-level greenhouse gas emissions, including defining inventory boundaries, identifying emission sources, and developing a reporting data system.
Quantification and reporting of emission reductions under ISO 14064-2: This session introduces methods for quantifying, monitoring, and reporting project-level activities that reduce emissions or enhance greenhouse gas removals.
Verification and validation of reports under ISO 14064-3: Participants will explore the technical requirements and principles of greenhouse gas report verification and validation, thereby learning how to improve the completeness, consistency, and reliability of emissions data.
Practice through real-world cases: The program allocates time for a case study on the process of verifying a greenhouse gas report at a business or organization. Participants will also join a roundtable discussion on the challenges and solutions involved in greenhouse gas verification in Vietnam and will be able to exchange views and ask questions directly with experts.
In addition to the ISO 14064 standards, the course provides knowledge of Vietnamese legal regulations, emission factors, product carbon footprints, the carbon market, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), sustainable development, and ESG.
